Quilty Pleasures
Two Twelve Arts Center presents “Quilty Pleasures” featuring the fiber art of Margaret Baratta and Michelle Benton, February and March artists of the month.
For the past 10 years Margaret has been designing and quilting impressionistic floral landscape wall hangings, using 2 1/4 inch squares of fabric. “Floral fabric becomes my palette as I explore the color, texture and prints of all the natural elements that make up the landscape design. The intention is to create images of a floral scene that evokes peace, tranquility and beauty.” says Baratta.
Michelle admits to having a passion for fabric and sewing. She has an aversion to patterns. “I'll start with an idea, sometimes inspired by a fabric, dream or another artist’s work. Art quilts with bright colors and quirky design are the most fun. My bags start as art quilts, then turn into something practical,” says Benton.
The show runs through March 26. Hours are Monday – Friday 9-3, Saturday 9-noon and by special appointment.
